Winnifred Taylor

Obituary of Winnifred Pearle Taylor

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mom, Winnifred “Winnie” Taylor (nee Feuerstein).  Mom passed away in the early morning of Friday, June10th, 2022 in Parkland Integrated Health Centre in Shellbrook.

Mom was born in the Kinistino area on March 14, 1924 to Fred and May (nee Chapman) Feuerstein along with 8 brothers and sisters.  She began working at a young age, helping farmers’ wives with the household duties.   She married the love of her life Melville “Buster” Taylor and they had two sons, Fred and Harvey.  Mom had many talents, including being able to whip up a full course meal at a moment notice out of what seemed nothing, especially on Sundays, when it seemed all the extended family would show up for a visit and/or a game of cards, with many of them staying through lunch and dinner.  She was well known in the community for her decoration of floats for the parades, Christmas scenes, a yard full of flowers, as well as a large garden.  She loved to crochet, making a large 3’ x 6’ piece of the Last Supper which she proudly displayed draped over the back of her sofa; as well as numerous doilies, baby sets, tablecloths and the list goes on.  Her saskatoon pies were to die for, the crust so flaky, they were absolutely delicious, and always a few in the freezer to pop in the oven for unexpected or expected company.  Her homemade caramel popcorn was a treat we all looked forward to receiving.

Mom was active in the community, enjoying her carpet bowling, church gatherings, and working in the Kinistino District Pioneer Museum for a number of years.  She moved into Carment Court in her later years, where she loved being able to go and have suppers with the other tenants and especially looked forward to going down for coffee and a visit every morning after breakfast, and always making time to bake her favorite caretaker, Wayne, an apple pie and probably cookies as well, although I think he might have hid them.

Winnie is survived by her son Harvey (Dorothy Bennett), daughter-in-law Linda “Gail” Kenzle Taylor and her children Krystal and Keon, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her beloved husband Melville “Buster”; son Fred; her parents Fred and May; sisters Dorothy, Marjorie, and Ruby; and brothers Vernon, Fred, Raymond, Dennis and Gary.

We would like to thank the staff of Parkland Integrated Health Centre and Dr. Adebayo, as well as Dr. Nicolas Kriel for the excellent care and compassion she received.
