Obituary of Percy Alvin Scott

Percy Scott was born on January 21, 1930 at Meeting Lake, Saskatchewan to John and Mary Scott. Percy was one of six children, with four older siblings John, Stan, Elsie and Almer and one younger sister Pearl. Percy grew up on the family farm in the Meeting Lake area, Percy and his younger brothers used horses to bring in wood for the winter, as well as other farm related chores. He went to school in a one room school house and to hear him talk about it, it was always 40 below, through deep snow and five miles up hill both ways. Percy moved to Alberta where he was introduced to Mina Nixon by his younger sister Pearl. Not long after they were married and together they raised their five children Randy, Clifford, Charlene, Glenna and Darcy in and around the Edmonton area. However, after just seven years of marriage Percy and Mina separated, he still spent almost every weekend with the family. It was on one of these weekends that Percy would work on whatever vehicle needed fixing or maintaining, if there was no vehicle in need of repairs then he would fix anything around the house that needed fixing, he was always looking for something to fix. Percy would spend evenings at his sister and brother in-laws, Pearl and Dennis, he and Dennis would sit up talking until the middle of the night. Percy was quite a story teller; he could spin a tale as long as your arm and you would wonder how much of it was true. There were times when to a small child this was the most amazing thing. Listening to the stories about big owls, cars shrinking and anything else that he could think of. Percy worked at many different jobs like farm labor, moving houses, operating heavy equipment and carpentry just to name a few, he was a jack of all trades but a master of none. It seemed like there was nothing that he could not do or be willing to try and do. In 1974, Percy met Barbara Jean Walker and they were married on April 26, 1975, to celebrate their marriage they took a trip to British Columbia in the summer of that year, taking Percy's two young daughters with them. In the summer of 1976, Percy and Barbara Jean moved the family to the North end of Meeting Lake on a quarter of land, he started to build a new house for the family and when he was not working on the house you could find him in the garage working on a vehicle or other equipment. He was always tinkering with something, if he was not home he was over helping a neighbor do something or in Rabbit Lake doing something for his Mom and Dad. Percy lost his wife of 17 years in 1992; she passed away in his arms. Percy remained on the acreage for several years before moving to the Nipawin area. Percy broke his hip in 1998 which led to a hip replacement in 2000, he returned to Nipawin after his hip was healed and remained there until he became sick and went to the Royal University Hospital in October of this year. He was later transferred to the Battlefords Union Hospital where he passed away peacefully on November 15, 2009. Percy will be lovingly remembered by his Children Randy Scott of Drayton Valley, Alta, Clifford Scott of North Battleford, Sask, Charlene (George) Osadchuk of North Battleford, Sask, Glenna (Dennis) Walter of Spiritwood, Sask and Darcy Wicklund of Wetaskiwin, Alta. his Grandchildren Jonathan (Lydia) Osadchuk of Battleford, Sask, Alex (Vanessa) Osadchuk of North Battleford, Sask, Darcy (Heidi) Scott of Warburg, Alta, Christina Scott of Drayton Valley, Alta, Paula Davis of Medicine Hat, Alta, Laura Davis of Medicine Hat, Alta, Dawna Wicklund of Alder Flats, Alta and Wyatt Wicklund of Alder Flats, Alta, numerous Great-Grandchildren, the mother of his children Mina Scott of North Battleford, Sask, his Sister Pearl Brewster of Buck Creek, Alberta, a Sister-In-Law Millie Scott of Kelowna, B.C., his Brother Almer (Diane) Scott of Glaslyn, Sask as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and countless friends.
