Obituary of Colin Burton Sheldon
Colin Burton Sheldon
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Colin Burton Sheldon of Prince Albert, SK on January 30, 2023, at the age of 67 years. Colin was born on March 6, 1955, at Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert to Robert and Muriel Sheldon, setting the stage for becoming the ultimate big brother to his three sisters Merle, Bernice, and Janet.
Colin was a devoted and loving father to his three children Angela, Heather, and Christopher.
Colin met the love of his life, Phyllis 7 years ago and they have been happily married for nearly 5 years. Colin will be truly missed by Phyllis, the family, his community, and every person he met during his extraordinary life.
Colin grew up on the family farm where under the watchful eye of his parents. he developed his great love for farming. The Sheldon farm started very modestly with 4 milk cows and ultimately grew to 40 cows over a period of time.
As part of his involvement with running the family farm, Colin was exposed to the auction world and quickly developed a love for everything “auction”. He continued to expand his skills in this area by successfully completing the Auctioneering College of Canada’s course and exam, and then began applying his new skills through working auctions.
Colin was extremely family & community oriented, with a passion for improving things for his community and local businesses. To that end, he served multiple terms as a local councillor for Prince Albert Division 5, where one of his major accomplishments included the foundation of the Prince Albert Rural Water Utility in 1993. After a hiatus from his role for a number of years, Colin was re-elected as Councillor for District 5 in 2020, a position he was in at the time of his passing.
Colin was a man of many interests and talents. He was successfully able to apply his farming expertise and skills to a new role with Corrections Canada where he worked for 27 years. Colin thoroughly enjoyed this role, and the many additional roles that he took on during his time there.
Colin will be lovingly remembered by his wife Phyllis; his children Angela Sheldon (Lee) & family, Allie, Brennan, and Bryson; Heather (Robert) Gibson & family Kaylee and Nicolas; and Christopher Sheldon; his step-children: Jason (Kim) Dunphy & family Andrew and Matthew; Chris Dunphy & family Kaylie and Sophie; his siblings Merle Johnston, Bernice (Lyle) Wudrick, and Janet (Daniel) Carrier; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Colin was predeceased by his parents: Robert and Muriel Sheldon and his brother-in-law Harvey Johnston.
