 Martin "Howard" Brunton

1943 - 2023

 

 

 

It is with great sadness that we announce on February 10th, 2023, Howard Brunton passed away at the age of 79 years old at the Herb Bassett Centre in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

Howard was born November 6th, 1943, in Shellbrook, where he was raised on a farm by his parents with his 3 sisters.  Howard graduated from school in Shellbrook and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Education at the U of S.  He graduated from University in 1970.  Howard taught in Kyle, Canwood, and finally Shellbrook where he remained till his retirement from teaching. 

In his younger years, Howard played hockey with the Shellbrook Elks and was an avid golfer, to say the least.  He played many sports throughout his life but his love for golf was unmatched.  If you knew our dad, you knew where to find him.  He put his heart and soul into the Shellbrook Golf Course and perfecting his game.   For a number of years, Dad volunteered his time from being President of the Golf Course to coaching golf.  Dad’s other passion was Coaching/Managing/Reffing hockey from beginners to senior levels as well as playing hockey with the Old Timers.

Howard is survived by his ex-wife Gail Westbury, his 3 Children, and his 7 Grandchildren.  Daughter Stacey (Doug) Collins and their 3 boys Garrett, Gavin, and Jaeren;  Son Steven Brunton (Janette Bishop) and children Hayden and Isobel; his Daughter Carma Smith (Kevin Oborowsky) and children Logan and Hunter;  His sisters Bonnie (Magnus) Hansen, Diana Herman, Linda (Ken) Baumgartner; his 1 Uncle Ernie (Jean) Tiegen; aswell as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Howard was predeceased by his wife Judy Brunton; his parents Raymond and Mildred ( Tiegen) Brunton; and his brother-in-law, Lyle Herman. 

 

There will be a private family graveside service held for Howard this summer in the Shellbrook Cemetery.
