Myrna was born in 1930 in a cold sod house in Wiseton, Saskatchewan, as one of 12 children. Those early years growing up included a few years at Shell River near Victoire, then to the Anderson homestead at Timberlost. In the late 40's, Myrna went to work in the Edam area, where she married her first husband, Paul in 1948. Paul and Myrna Harty continued to farm in the Edam area until moving to Medstead in 1954, with the first four of their seven children. In 1975, tragedy struck the Harty family when Paul passed away after a short battle with cancer. Myrna was left to carry on raising their young children and operating their family farm as a young woman. Shortly after, Myrna moved to Medstead where she was employed as the school caretaker for 10 years. In April, 1980 Myrna married Gordon Gamble. They lived in Medstead for the first few years before moving to their new home that they had built together on the Gamble farm. They continued to manage the Gamble farm as well as getting into some entrepreneurial ventures. Myrna's love of gardening has touched a lot of people in her community. Her love of gardening has truly inspired all of her children who now get the same enjoyment from having dirt under their fingernails and flowers blooming profusely. Because the gardening was such a big part of Myrna's enjoyment of life, it also became a big part of Gordon's life. In 1999, Gordon and Myrna retired, sold their farm, and retained the 10 acres where their home is located. Gordon and Myrna enjoyed many hours of fishing, camping and crafting. Myrna, with Gordon's help, combined her love of crafting, jam making and baking for several years. Myrna, marrying Gordon at the age of 50, shows how much life there is to live and things that can be accomplished after that age. This should provide inspiration to all of us. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Spiritwood Health Complex, who provided tremendous care to Myrna and wonderful support for the family during her final days.
