Two years ago I had a school project where I had to ask my grandpa questions about his life and to share his point of view on various topics. We figured that some of his old friends might enjoy reading what he said,
I am 76 years old. born in 1945.Growing up I thought of becoming a forest ranger but ended up being a policeman which I suppose is similar in a lot of ways.
My actual life experiences really changed my perspectives not only by what I witnessed with the people I dealt with in the public but also the people I worked for and with.
Back when I was a teenager I think life was simpler. There was very little technology. Everyone had a record player and it was a really big thing when transistor radios
came out. We got our first tv when I was 14. black and white, one channel and only came on in the evening until 11 p.m. There was no drug problem and there
was more discipline as to what you could or could not do then. Jobs were hard to get and there were a lot less opportunities then. I was fortunate to have loving parents.
There were good parents then just as there are now. We had to make our own entertainment. sports/hunting/fishing. Everyone danced in those days and they
formed teen dance clubs which were a lot of fun. Music back in those days was great and we still listen to it today. In my time your parents had to be professionals (doctors) etc.
if you went to university. Ordinary families could not afford to send their children to higher education. Most young people looked for careers that offered decent working conditions
and a pension at the end of your working days. I think that holds true today. I think there are plenty more opportunities for young people today. They just have to apply themselves
and realize that before they know it the opportunity to better themselves slips away very quickly. I think its especially important for young women to get a good
education. The divorce rate is high and young women leave themselves vulnerable if they find themselves trying to raise a family on a poor paying job and relying on some
jerk to pay them alimony. Education is easy to pack around. It will open job opportunities for you throughout your life and enable you to work at something that you are interested
in and can enjoy. Today it is very easy to go into debt. My first car was a vw beetle and new it cost 12 hundred dollars. today most vehicles are around 50 thousand. Houses are very
expensive as well. A car and a house alone can put you into debt for years. My most valuable part of life was my family. My mother and father and siblings and my own family later
in life. This will never change. My career took me far from my parents and I only saw them a few times before they passed. If I it to do over again I would try to live closer to them
especially as they got older. My greatest success in life was marrying a wonderful lady and raising a wonderful family. Now my greatest joy is to see my family members
succeed in life and be happy. My biggest challenge in life is death. You never really get over loosing your parents or a spouse or family member. They say it gets
better with time and it does. You have to realize that with life there is death. \you never forget but in time you realize that your only here for a short time and you try to enjoy
the short time you have left. loneliness is a terrible thing and older people suffer from it quit often. Starting a relationship with a new partner is good for both parties.
My greatest success in life was surviving as a policeman for 35 years in northern Saskatchewan. That was more than enough of a challenge most of the time. As a young person
I wanted a job that was challenging and interesting and provided for my future. I think I accomplished that.
I hope this works for you, Love Grandpa.

It was with great sadness that we learned of Lloyd’s passing on March 18th. Lloyd and I had been friends since 1972 and he was my best man in our wedding party in 1974. Lloyd was a tremendous mentor during the time we worked together. We worked hard and played hard. We enjoyed outdoor activities and memories of our times together will last for a lifetime with me. We offer our condolences to all of Lloyd’s children and his brother’s and immediate family. I last spoke with Lloyd at Christmas and will cherish that conversation. Lloyd you may now RIP from that ugly illness that has taken you from all of us. God bless.
