Jean Abramyk

Obituary of Jean Abramyk

With heavy hearts and much sadness, the family of Jean Josephine Abramyk (nee Ruszkowski), announce her sudden, unexpected yet peaceful passing on May 19, 2023 at the age of 89.  Mom was born on January 18, 1934, in Fanford, SK where she grew up on the family farm.

On June 24, 1951, mom married her true love Dmytro (Metro).  They accomplished many dreams together, including raising 9 children. Mom was funny, always having a new joke to share.  She was a very loving and compassionate person who was dearly loved, adored, and respected by everyone in return. Mom was a lifelong Approved Care Home operator for 34 years who looked after special needs people who truly became members of the family.

Mom had an energy level that made her run circles around all of us. She was a very special individual who always considered others before herself. She was a loving wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, auntie, sister, and sister-in-law. She was adventurous and brave, there is nothing she couldn’t do or wouldn’t tackle. She loved berry picking, time at the cabin, campfires, walking, traveling, picnics, playing cards or any get together with family or friends.  As a true woman of faith, her favorite book was the Holy Bible, which in later years she studied faithfully every day. She was a rare gem we can never replace.

Mom was gentle and patient with all those who needed help. She had the ability to be present in any situation and offer an ear, warm smile, or an encouraging word when needed. She taught us to treat others the way that you’d like to be treated.

Mom was predeceased by her husband Dmytro; son Walter; parents Frank and Maria (nee Grassick) Ruszkowski; brothers Joe, Jack, Eddie, Frank, Clarence and Tom; and sister Rose Salisbury and in infancy Mary George; sisters-in-law Mary, Delphine, Shirley and Anne Ruszkowski, Tilly and Frances Abramyk, Helen Knudston, Mary Thoms and Sophie Baschuk; brothers-in-law Bob Salisbury, Sam, Steve,   John, Mike, and Paul Abramyk, Nick Baschuk and Steve Thoms; sons-in-law Leroy Fjeld and Lorne Breeze; as well as numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

She will be very lovingly remembered forever and always by her children Dianne (Henri) Briere, Fred, Terry Fjeld, MaryAnne (Lorne) Schmidt, Steven (Gaylene), Cathy (George) Hoffman, Matthew, and Elaine (Don) Klassen; her grandchildren whom she truly adored: Lauren, Christy, Jessica, Laureena, Landon, Jolene, Amy, Rebecca, Ali, Madison, Shelby, Wylie, Heidi, Jonathan, Desiree, Ashlee, Brennan, Justin, Deyna, Nathan, Caylah, Zachary, Kohle, Keaghan, Chelsie and Jonny; and her grandchildren’s spouses. Much loved and adored 19 great-grandchildren; daughter in-law Sonia Abramyk; brother Ted Ruszkowski;  sister Margaret (Bert) Majchrowski; brother Peter (Stephanie) Ruszkowski; sisters-in-law Beatrice, Rita and  Carmen Ruszkowski and Adeline Abramyk; as well as numerous family, friends and all who knew her.

Rest in peace dear momma.  You are loved beyond measure and will be in our hearts forever.  Go dance with Dad now. He’s been waiting for you!
