Obituary of Deny Gilbert Allchurch

Deny Gilbert Allchurch late of Spiritwood, SK passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023 in North Battleford, SK.  A Funeral Service for Deny will be held on Friday August 4, 2023  - 2:00pm. at the Spiritwood Civic Centre.  Friends so wishing may make donations to the Spiritwood Fire Department or to the Spiritwood and District Wildlife Federation in memory of Deny Allchurch as tokens of remembrance.  Family and friends wishing to send online condolences are welcome to visit www.beaulacfuneralhome.com. Eulogy for Deny:

Deny Gilbert Allchurch was born August 26/1978 at North
Battleford’s Union Hospital to the proud parents of Denis and Sheila
Allchurch. He has two brothers Newton and Micky Allchurch.
He attended k-6 at Hartley Clark Elementary and graduated from
Spiritwood Highschool in 1997. As a child he enjoyed playing with
brothers and neighbour kids in the backyard. They spent many hours
playing games like kick the can, road hockey, built dirt bike ramps and
tracks out in the field.
In his younger years he was very mischievous and rambunctious.
Their youngest brother Micky would know this all too well. Sheila
remembers one time where Deny, Newton and friends dug a hole in
Abe’s pasture. They dug a hole deep enough and left Mick in it.
Throughout his childhood he enjoyed fastball; he was the back
catcher for the Spiritwood fastball team. His father Denis Allchurch was
his ball coach the year they won provincials.
He spent many years camping with his family, friends and cousins.
He enjoyed quadding, skidooing, knee boarding and fishing with his
family. They picked berries and he ate more than he ever came home
with. Deny and Newton took up spear fishing where every outing
seemed to be a competition.
He spent a lot of winters skidooing with his family; he was
involved in the Spiritwood snowmobile club. He attended many skidoo
rallies with his brothers; where the races were on to see who had the
fastest sled.
Deny’s parents Sheila and Dennis owned D&S Sports where Deny
first developed his passion to fix small motor machines. On any
adventure, whether it be skidooing or quadding he was always the first
one to pull out his tools to repair someone else’s broken down
machine. Deny was known for helping friends and family in times of
need. He would give the shirt off his back to help anyone.
Deny was an avid hunter; he spent many seasons with his dad,
brothers and friends hunting. Deny always had the luck of seeing the
biggest buck but somehow never had his gun.
One evening Deny and Mick stopped to look at a buck near
meeting lake. Mick told Deny it was too small to shoot so he passed it
up. The next day in the same field they saw the same buck and Mick
decided to shoot it. Mick ended up with a 176-trophy buck.
Deny liked to shoot many animals but when it came time to skin
them, he was nowhere to be found. His brothers, friends, uncles and
dad would pull out their knives and skin.
Deny was also an avid fisherman; one summer while camping at
Clearwater Deny and Mick took off in the early morning to go fishing at
Utah lake. After many fish caught, Mick landed a small pike, but the
hook also ended up in his finger. Mick looked over at Deny for help.
Deny fell over like a falling tree when he saw the blood dripping from
Mick’s finger. Mick got the fish off the hook and cut the hook out of his
finger and pulled it out as Deny watched. They both had a good laugh.
Deny did many jobs throughout his career, some of them were Bin
building, mechanic, Rig work with his older brother Newton,
plumbing/heating with his brother Mick, highways with HJR, Trucking
grain and livestock with T&K trucking. In the evenings and weekends
Deny was always helping out with farming, whether it be haying,
sorting cattle, trucking grain, and he loved to drive combine. He finally
found his calling working with Paul Dauvin at P. Construction,
He was also a volunteer member of the Spiritwood Fire
Department for 20 years. Deny went on numerous fire calls and EMO
jaws of life incidents. His family often wondered how he could do it
when he fainted at the site of blood. While he was a member with the
Fire Department, he was very involved in many community functions.
He helped set up the street dance and the highlight of his summer was
to set off the fireworks during the July 1st celebrations.
In the fall of 2013 sparks flew when he met the love of his life
Charlene Tipewan. They first met at his favorite watering hole the
Spiritwood Welcome Inn. Deny asked Charlene out on their first date;
while she was expecting a nice intimate “get to know you” supper, but
he surprised her by taking her to the communities Duck’s Unlimited
Supper. Where she met numerous friends and family. It was the most
memorable first date a girl could have.
Charlene had a surprise of her own by introducing Deny to her son
Ian. Deny shared his love of fishing with Ian. One summer while out
fishing at Larson Lake. Ian yelled for dad saying he caught a fish. Deny
was convinced it was weeds; to his surprise it was a walleye. That was
the first fish Ian had ever caught. From there his journey of fatherhood
began.
Deny introduced Charlene and Ian to his love of the outdoors.
Where he took them camping, fishing/ice fishing, hunting, boating,
skiddoing and quadding. He was a loving father and caring partner and
loved them very much.
In 2020 Deny was diagnosed with colon cancer, he had surgery to
remove the cancer followed by chemo treatments. In the spring of
2022, he won the biggest battle of his life and was declared cancer free.
In the following year, Deny received news that his cancer had returned,
this time in his liver. Deny courageously fought but lost his battle. Deny
passed away peacefully on July 28, 2023, with Denis, Sheila, Charlene,
Ian, Newton, Mick and family by his side.
Family was everything to him and he loved his friends like family. He
was a humble and caring man who will be lovingly missed by his family
and friends.
