Obituary of Donna Peggy Muriel Dobson
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donna Dobson (nee Rogerson) on September 13, 2023 with her family by her side. Donna was born April 23, 1940 along with her twin brother Derril Rogerson. Growing up, Donna was involved with as many activities she could possibly schedule in a week: during/after school, at church, skating/curling rinks, piano lessons, dancing lessons, babysitting, and many events in the Leask community. Donna and her mom spent every summer at Waskesiu where she worked at one of the restaurants. She saved up her pay and only spent the tips she earned. She loved the fishing trips and spent many an hour playing card games with her dad.
Donna married Clayton Dobson on January 21, 1961. They were blessed with three children: Sheri, Sheldon, and Shannon. Clayton’s career with Shelly Western moved the family to various communities in Saskatchewan. When the family moved back home to Leask to take over the family business, Donna picked up where she left off with community involvement. This time, however, it was with her children’s activities that kept her busy: hockey, figure skating, piano lessons, golfing, fishing, Brownies, and swimming lessons at Emerald Lake. She still managed to find time to enjoy her own activities like joining curling teams, Diocese Guild at church, Snowy Owl Brownie leader, Sunday school teacher, sewing skating dresses, knitting sweaters and afghans, as well as helping out with running the family business at Kilwinning store. Donna was also the teaching assistant at the Leask Hutterite Colony, a job that she truly loved. Donna and Clayton attended many Dine and Dances at the Leask Legion and Lions Hall where they danced the night away. They also enjoyed the odd Caribbean Cruise. Donna loved planning birthday parties and many Rogerson/Dobson family reunions.
The family moved to Saskatoon in 1978 where Donna had more opportunities to find work outside the home. She worked at the OK Economy bakery, was a cashier at Canadian Tire, and spent the remainder of her working life as a postal clerk at Canada Post retiring after 25 years of service.
She loved cheering on the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Toronto Blue Jays, Toronto Maple Leafs, of course the Leask Flyers Senior Men’s Hockey Team. She watched every curling event on TV, amateur and professional figure skating competitions and travelled all across Canada to watch several shows in person.
She loved having her grandchildren and great grandchildren come to visit. Her motto was “What Happens at Gramma’s, Stays At Gramma’s.” The grandchildren have many wonderful memories with the trips to the cabin at Emerald Lake, overnight stays, and Christmases and Easters at Gram’s.
Donna was predeceased by her husband-Clayton Dobson; parents-John and Jessie (Nutter) Rogerson; infant brother-Murray; niece-Laura Rogerson; stepmother-Pearl (Kennedy) Rogerson; parents-in law-Charles and Lillian (Hodgson) Dobson; sisters-in-law-Ruth (Clair) Coleman, Hazel (Ronald) Hertzberg, Jean (Nick) Skrupski, and infant Donna Dobson; brothers-in-law-Owen Dicus and infant Roy Dobson.
Donna is survived by her children-Sheri, Sheldon, and Shannon; brother-Derril (Sylvia) Rogerson; sister-in-law-Muriel Dicus; brother-in-law-Ken (Kathy) Dobson; grandchildren-Leighton Dobson, Landon (Katrina) Dobson, Jesselyn Staniforth, Sharel (Clint) Grodesky, Lachelle (Kyle) Grodesky; great grandchildren-Rowan, Kienna, Miera, Clayton, Armani, Diamond, Briton, Riley, Faith, Leah and Lucas; nieces and nephews-Colleen, Melvin, Marvin, Laura, Corinne, Boyd, Perry, Derek, Norma, Courtney, Greg, Andrew and Warren.
The family wish to extend special thanks to Dr. Darren Chew (family physician), the staff at the Borden Care Home, and the doctors and nurses at St. Paul’s and Royal University Hospitals for the love and care given to Donna.
Dearly loved and forever in our hearts by family and so many friends.
It was Donna’s request that a service not be held.
