Obituary of Pat Cody

It is with great sadness that the family of Pat Cody announce his passing on October 16, 2023, at the age of 93.

Pat was born on the family farm near Fulda, SK on May 24, 1930, the 6th of 7 children to William and Louise Cody. Pat began working at CN Railway in 1951 where he worked as a CN Operator in many towns throughout Saskatchewan for 38 years.

In 1961, Pat married Lois Wilkinson from Mervin, SK. They were blessed with 3 children; Sheila, Barry and Kim. Pat and Lois began their married life together in Tisdale, followed by Richard, Gerald, Radisson and finally settled in Prince Albert, SK in 1976.

Pat was an avid curler and also enjoyed golfing. Pat and Lois loved playing cards and often got together with family and friends for a fun evening, or even a weekend of cards and socializing. They were also fabulous dancers and taught dance lessons for several years.  Pat liked to maintain a well-kept yard and for years he had a beautiful bountiful garden. He loved hunting and fishing and did so for many years with his son Barry as well as other family members and friends. Pat and Lois enjoyed escaping our cold winters and travelled for several years to Melaque, Mexico and Qualicum Beach, BC, where they met some wonderful people who became lifelong friends.

Pat was a patient, kind, and gentle man. He was a great conversationalist and would sit quietly next to anyone and slowly start talking and asking questions until he found some common ground. He had a genuine interest in others. Pat especially loved his grandchildren and great- grandchildren, his face would light up whenever they came to visit. His faith was very important to him, and he rarely missed Sunday Mass and was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus. Pat will be remembered for his kindness and great sense of humor. His laugh was contagious, and he gave the best hugs.

Love and hugs until we meet again.

Pat is survived by his loving wife, Lois of 62 years; daughter, Sheila (Lorne) Rice; son, Barry (Danica) and daughter Kim; grandchildren, Blaire (Joel) Broda, Allysha (Kris) Bourquin, Kolby (Eric) Schatz, Ariel (Reid) Charko and Carter Cody, as well as his great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Jake Bourquin, Sophia, Jackson and Jameson Broda and Sadie Schatz; his sister, Sr. Ethel Cody; brother-in-law, Dale (Charlotte) Wilkinson; sister-in-law, Sheryl (Ray Bruce) Edwards, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents, William, and Louise Cody; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clair, and Bessie Wilkinson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Elmer and Irma, Robert and Rita, Jerome and Rita, Harold and Lena; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Frank Graf; and his brother-in-law, Norris Edwards.

We would like to thank Dr. Gordon Surkan, Dr. Alanna Surkan, and the 5th floor medical staff at Victoria Hospital and all the wonderful staff at the Rose Garden Hospice for all their care and kindness.
