Obituary of Lea Cecile Diehl
DIEHL, Mrs. Lea Cecile Diehl aged 89 years passed away March 26, 2010 at Parkland Terrace in Shellbrook, Sk. She leaves to cherish her memory her sons Albert & Yvonne of Shell Lake, Sk., George & Grace of Leask, Sk., Ronald & Eleanor of Leask, Sk. 10 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.; Her sisters Theresa Grenier of Marcelin, Sk., Irene Dagenais of Marcelin, Sk., and Cecile & Bud Small of Debden, Sk., a brother Lawrence & Yvonne Verreault of Barrhead, Ab., brothers and sisters in law of the Diehl family, numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband Henry on May 16, 2009, her sisters Alice (Robert) Renaud, Lillian (Augustine) Coroy, a brother Leon Verreault, a brother in law Simon Grenier and her parents Albert & Roseanna Verreault. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday March 31, 2010 from the St. Joseph RC Church in Marcelin with Rev. Fr. Anthony Pangan celebrant. Interment took place in the Marcelin Cemetery. The cross bearer was Lawrence Verreault, and her pallbearers were David, Randy, Wayne, Adam, Dwight Diehl and Ian Waterhouse. The music was played by Maria DeGirolamo, the St. Joseph's Choir and Jere Renaud as soloist. The readers were Mavia Stockmanski & Valorie Magnuson. Lea was born April 13, 1920 at Aldina, Sk. The extent of her schooling was grade 4. She was the eldest of seven children and was needed at home to help with the chores. In those days, her chores were to help her dad with stacking hay, milk and milking cows. She enjoyed helping her mom with housework as well. She met the love of her life Henry Diehl at a picnic at Martin's Lake. They were married October 6, 1936 and were blessed with 3 sons. Henry worked for farmers till they were able to purchase their own land. She grew large gardens and sold raspberries and other garden produce, she spun wool from the sheep they had and would knit siwash sweaters, socks and mitts. She enjoyed masking quilts and braided rugs which she sold. She canned all her own meat and vegetables. Lea and Henry ran the concession at Martin's Lake. She made all her own hamburgers and buns. In 1976, they sold the farm and moved to Melfort. She did babysitting and catering work at the Co-op restaurant, baking cinnamon buns, rolls and pies. They moved back to Shellbrook in 1992. Lea and Henry were married 72 years when he passed away. Lea and her family prayed the rosary together and attended mass regularly Lea leaves a wonderful legacy of memories for her family and friends. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Lea may be made to the Parkland Terrace Foundation or Mass intentions.
