Obituary of Norman Robert Louison
The family is saddened to announce the death of our beloved father, grandfather, and brother. On November 10, 2023, Norman Robert Louison passed away with his daughter Rosealee by his side.
Born on February 15,1959, Robert was a precocious child, exploring the city on his own as a five year old “stopping at the red and going at the green” to make his way downtown to the Bay. Instead of waiting for the bus after preschool, he surprised us all by arriving home in time to watch the Three Stooges on TV. He had hitchhiked! In later years Rob would zip around town on his scooter whether it was 40 above or 40 below meeting new people and shopping for bargains. He could often be found holding court on the deck, visiting with passers-by, and making friends with the ravens and blue jays.
A self-taught musician, Rob liked nothing better than sharing his music with others. He was a one man band strumming his guitar accompanied with his harmonica or mouth harp and tambourine. Sometimes he even took the show on the road busking at local stores. His creativity extended to songwriting, and he crafted lengthy, perfectly rhymed poems and songs for us to treasure. Rob loved to retell stories embellishing family memories and history. He would regale Rosealee with tales of the Wompoos, (our family) resourceful creatures who served Wompoo berries (watermelon) to celebrate birthday picnics at the Little Red. Blueberry Bonnet (Granny) was also a frequent subject for his imaginative storytelling.
Rob’s enthusiasm for cooking was only matched by the over the top meals he produced for the family. He was quite proud of these labors of love. Robert experienced numerous health issues throughout his life which became increasingly more challenging. He faced his rapidly deteriorating health bravely struggling to find the happy in every day. He will be remembered as a one-of-a-kind character and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Rob is survived by his daughter, Rosealee Naumann; his grandchildren, Dylan Naumann and Bryden Forrest; and his sisters, Shirley Wright and Judith Hjertaas as well as a large extended family. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Rose Garden Hospice staff for all their care and support that was given to Robert. A private Graveside Service will be announced.
