Obituary of Diane Eva Marie Greenard
Diana “Diane” Eva Marie Greenard (nee: Gagne), passed away on Friday, February 9, 2024, at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, SK at the age of 76. Diane was born in Spiritwood, Saskatchewan and lived on a farm in Laventure, SK. Diane attended a country school three miles away by horse-drawn carts and cabooses driven by her eight-year-old brother. Later, she went to Spiritwood school fifteen miles away by a homemade bus (a box in the back of a pickup).
At age 16, Diane got a job housekeeping and then she worked as a telephone operator in Spiritwood. When she was 18 years old, she was asked to be bridesmaid for a cousin in Port Alberni, BC. It is then that she decided to move to BC at age 18 and worked at A&W in Port Alberni. Diane got married in 1967 and had two children shortly afterwards. She moved to various towns in Alberta and BC following construction jobs. Diane moved to Coquitlam in 1987 and a few years after that moved back to Spiritwood where she eventually purchased her mother’s house and renovated it.
In November 2017, Diane moved to Saskatoon to be closer to medical care and her two sisters and aunt who provided lots of support. She moved into McClure Place where she found the staff and residents caring and welcoming. She enjoyed the many group activities including exercise sessions, dance lessons and learning new card games. Diane also enjoyed sewing, knitting, cooking, doing puzzles, shopping, reading, games on her iPad, and cooking.
Diane is survived by son Kevin Greenard, grandson Hunter Greenard-Zahara, granddaughter Hannah Greenard-Zahara, sister Adele Horn (brother-in-law Jim Horn), sister Rita Goertzen, sister in-law Laurelle Gagne and numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
