Sadie Berezowski

Obituary of Sadie Berezowski

On Saturday, March 2nd, 2024, our Mom, Baba, Grandma, Auntie and Friend Sadie Berezowski (nee Kosowan) peacefully passed away at the age of 95.

Mom was born on March 17th, 1928, in the Samburg, SK area.  Mom leaves behind three children:  Maurice (Joyce), Marianne (Rick), Boris (Kenna); eight grandchildren, Christopher (Amy), Monica (Vince), Michelle (Arley), Lana (Alec), Silvanna, Mathew, Kailee, and Tanner; five great-grandchildren, Riley, Jacob, AJ, Ksenia, and Cameron.  Mom is predeceased by her husband, John; son, Bobby; daughter-in-law, Elaine; parents, Kost and Maria Kosowan, and her sisters and brothers of the Kosowan family.

Mom in her early days ventured out for work to Winnipeg and when returned home worked at the Victoria Union Hospital of which she loved being with the people.  The majority of her life was spent working side by side on the farm with her husband of 64 years, John.  She loved her extravagant vegetable and fruit gardens.  Harvested the bounty of plenty which became either neatly stored in numerous perfectly lined up jars on the shelves in the massive pantry, in the potato bin, or in Mom’s three freezers!  Her baking and cooking skills were deliciously impeccable.  She would whip up a perfect round batch of nalysnyky crepes. And just in case, you needed a loaf of bread or some perogies, cabbage rolls, or desserts there was never a worry as Mom had plenty in the freezer.   Everyone was always welcome at Mom’s table whether you were family, friend, neighbour, or a first-time visitor!  Mom was a great waltz, polka and kalimayka dancer and singer.  At many traditional Ukrainian weddings Mom was recruited for the ladies’ choir of the evening.  She also had an ear for music and could strum or key some tunes on the mandolin or accordion.  Mom loved watching sports from football (Yes, a Rider Fan), hockey, baseball, and curling. Her favourite perfume; Channel No. 5 (mine too)!  She was always curious about how the world changed through the evolving transitions during her time on this earth.  She loved to visit with others, never missed wishing a birthday, anniversary or holiday greeting and liked to share a glass of ‘green beer’ on her St. Patty’s Day birthday. Mom had a beautiful shinning light of love that made everyone feel welcome, filled the room with peace, ‘asked about you’, and always said ‘thank you for coming’!
