In 1965 she married Terry Jones at St. Joseph’s RC Church in Prince Albert. They moved to Camrose, Alberta where Terry was working in a jewelry store. Soon after an opportunity arose and they bought Laycock’s Jewelry in Shellbrook, turning it into Terry’s Diamond House. Sylvia resumed her teaching career and continued teaching in Shellbrook until she retired in 1990. Sylvia was a community-minded person who was a willing volunteer in many areas such as the Kinette Club, the golf club, the STS local chapter, the Arts Council, and St. Agatha’s Roman Catholic Church. Sylvia enjoyed painting, she did pottery, gardened, and golfed for entertainment. She also enjoyed camping and in their early years, Sylvia and Terry did several biking/camping trips with one of them being across P.E.I. Sylvia also enjoyed travelling and she and Terry travelled extensively to the U.S. and Europe. Sylvia also took her aged mother on the trip of a lifetime to Hawaii. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Shellbrook Hospital for the excellent and compassionate care Sylvia received while in the hospital.
