Obituary of Florence Henderson

HENDERSON- Mrs. Florence Henderson, age 101, late of Whispering Pine Place in Canwood, passed away in the Victoria Union hospital in Prince Albert on Friday, June 11, 2010. Florence was born to Mary and William Beed on the family farm near Mont Nebo on February 24, 1909. She attended the Mont Nebo school, then moved to Prince Albert to do domestic work. Florence married Alich Henderson in 1933, and once again returned to farm life. She helped with farm work, raised chickens, milked cows, and had a large garden. After retirement and moving to Shell Lake, she took up curling, and traveled with the Legion Ladies curling team. She also sang in the Church choir, golfed, and was on the Senior's executive for many years. She enjoyed bus tours, and traveled to British Columbia, Alaska, and the Yukon. She was still able to dance at her 100'th Birthday party. Florence loved her grandchildren, and liked to play Yahtzee with a child on her lap. She was a grand lady. Florence leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Doreen (Alex) Buchanan of Mont Nebo; her son Billy (Marty) Henderson of North Battleford; her daughter-in-law Joyce Henderson of Shell Lake; 16 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; a god-son, Ian Pott of Shell Lake; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. She was predeceased by her dear husband, Alich Henderson; her son, Robert Henderson; her brothers, Branston Beeds, Cecil Beed, Frank Beed. The funeral service was held at the Lion's Community Hall in Shell Lake on Tuesday, June 15 at 2:00 pm with Rev. David Phillips as officiant. The eulogy was given by Beth Horon, the organist was David Hjertaas, and the soloists were Patti Heisler and Joanne Stewart. The pallbearers were Lyle Buchanan, Jim Buchanan, Darcy Henderson, Ricky Henderson, Bob Henderson, Neil Henderson. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Interment was in the Shell Lake Cemetery.
