Obituary of Esther Klischuk

On Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at the age of 94, Esther Klischuk (nee Wall) passed away. Esther was born in Westminster, British Columbia but grew up at Moonlight Lake, nearby Big River Saskatchewan.

Esther had a deep love for Bible truths and for Jehovah God. One of her most precious and important memories occurred in 1940 when, at the age of 10, Esther was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in the South Saskatchewan River.

Another pivotal and life changing moment came up, years later, when she was working in a cafe in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. In her exact words she said, “I met a good looking young man who always wore a hat and drove a new car, a 1949 Plymouth, almost as good looking as he was.” He must have fancied her too because on November 2, 1951, Esther married the love of her life, Adam Klischuk.

Esther and her handsome husband purchased the Steep Creek School which they then turned into their home in 1958. The farm in Steep Creek is where they raised their two sons, Sheldon and Harley. Harley stayed to work on the farm and remained there to ensure his aging parents could remain at home as long as possible. Sheldon married Suzanne Antochow and they gave Esther her “favourite” grandchild, Jessica Klischuk.

Esther poured her heart into the people she loved, extending herself in multiple projects and creating beautiful quilts and dresses for her granddaughter. She believed that not everything could be learned through books, and took her granddaughter on many nature walks teaching her about God through creation. They picked wildflowers, observed how sunflower heads moved with the sun, bird watched and tended farm animals amongst so many other beautiful things.

Esther was a steady, stabilizing force in her family. Although stern when necessary, she was mainly patient, kind, and content with life. She also had a mischievous side and took great pleasure in telling people how she used to be able to skin a rabbit in under 2 minutes, but even that was a moment for teaching and anyone listening couldn’t help but smile.

Losing our beautiful, sweet Esther is difficult and it’s easy to feel concerned about how we handle life without her, but we seek solace in her Bible based hope for the future, a promise that we will see our loved ones again on a paradise on earth and that this pain, though large, is only temporary.

In the meantime, she would be reminding her anxious worriers of the following:

“ There are only 2 reasons we worry:

1.            We are either too lazy to do anything about the problem at hand or;

2.            There is nothing we can do so there is no point in worrying. “

she took this reasoning from scriptures like Matthew 6:34 and Psalm 94:19. Her strong belief, and one she instilled in those around her, was that we are never alone, the anxiety and worry won’t last and we diminish it by building our faith up and seeking comfort from the ultimate problem solver, Jehovah God.

Esther is lovingly remembered by her sons, Sheldon (Suzanne) Klischuk and Harley Klischuk; her granddaughter, Jessica Klischuk; and numerous extended family who remember her with fondness.

Esther was predeceased by her husband Adam Klischuk; parents, Benjamin and Marie (nee Derksen) Wall; her brothers, Melvin Wall, Terry Wall, Harley Wall, Jim Wall, Fred Wall; and her sisters, Gladys (nee Wall) Troute, Elaine (nee Wall) Schieve, and Marian (nee Wall) Chernenkoff.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 4350 2nd Avenue West, Prince Albert, SK.
