Douglas Buchanan

Obituary of Douglas Richard Buchanan

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Douglas ”Doug” Buchanan on Sunday June 16, 2024 at the age of 45 years.

Doug was born on Sept 14th, 1978, to Wes and Pat Buchanan in Prince Albert, SK

From the time he could walk he had a knack for taking things apart and putting them back together, always using his hands to “fix” things if he could. He was only a toddler when he was teaching his mom how to work the new microwave.  Doug was a procrastinator, always having ideas of fixing up an old car or truck. He always had a smile on his face while tearing apart engines/transmissions and putting them back together.  “Half Done Doug” was a nickname given to him by his Regina cousins, knowing his habit of starting another project before finishing the previous one.  We will remember “Snag” who got his other nickname from Troy during a fishing trip in Nipawin when he was about 12 years old. His big catch that spun him around and knocked off his hat turned out to be just that…a SNAG! That name stuck.  After graduating high school, he attended Red Deer College where he received his journeyman red seal tickets in both sprinkler/fire protection and steamfitter.  With these trades he worked around the province on numerous jobs and shutdowns.  Pipefitting was his trade, but it was his love of fixing up old cars and trucks that was his passion. He could fix or figure out just about anything, which was his greatest gift and where he thrived.

Doug is survived by his father Wes Buchanan; sister Lisa (Troy) Neumeier; nephew Riley and niece Reganne; aunts and uncles Pat Jenkins (Bob), Brian Buchanan (Debbie), Colleen Nelson (Ervin), Dick Miller (Danita), Barb Anderson, Gail Manderson (John Hintz), Richard Anderson Jr.(Gina), Brian Anderson (Linda), June Demers (Brian),Tammy Lopes (Paul), Bill Anderson (Kim); numerous cousins, friends and the brotherhood of the UA Local 179 Pipe fitters

Doug was predeceased by his mother Patricia Buchanan
