Byron Yeo

Obituary of Byron Lee Yeo

“Love lives on forever in every memory and every thought”

The world just lost a great guy.  Byron Lee Yeo passed away peacefully at the age of 68 on August 5th, 2024.  Byron was born to Herb and Deanie Yeo on the 20th day in July 1956.  He was the 5th and youngest son with two sisters born after him to complete the Yeo Family.

Byron grew up in Hazeldell and spent his childhood building forts and huts and following trails in the back bush with his friends.  They also spent many hours fishing in the river.  There were many tales told of the respectable fish they caught.

After high school, Byron began working for the City of Prince Albert.  He was a heavy equipment operator, and he made a career of it.  He took great pride in being the maintenance supervisor at the municipal airport for over 20 years. He retired from the City in 2012.

Byron met his life partner, Carol Manson, in his last year of high school.  They were married in July of 1978 after Carol went off to university, then began her teaching career.  They settled in Prince Albert where they raised their four children, Kara, Brett, Dylan and Theran.

Byron and Carol shared many adventures together.  Camping at Sandy Lake with their children filled summers with beach fun, family time, fishing, and golf.  Winters were spent in the hockey rinks following their sons.  Byron was their greatest support.  Later in life, Byron and Carol took their first trip to Europe with their daughter Kara.  It was a real thrill to have the opportunity to travel back a few more times to watch Dylan play hockey there and be tourists.

Byron loved to have a good time, and we will miss his quick wit and playful nature.  He could come up with a clever or funny response to any conversation! He always found delight in making memorable moments out of ordinary ones.  Byron never missed an opportunity to tease, and his grandkids learned about playful teasing from him.  He loved his close-knit family beyond measure, and relished the times when we could gather together, enjoying the laughter and the chaos that came with it.

Byron took pride in the large back yard of his home, and he worked hard to make it a sanctuary.  It was a relaxing and beautiful space to watch birds, enjoy the fountains and flowers, and he loved it most when the grass was freshly cut.  Many restful hours were spent sitting in the shade on the patio with beverages shared.

“Tradition” and “Family” were of great importance to Byron, and he, along with Carol, worked hard to pass this on to their loved ones.  Byron’s beautiful yard was tended with love and his childhood home in Hazeldell, renovated by Byron, became home to his own family.  It was welcoming to family and friends alike.  When family visited, they felt they were coming “home” … home to hugs, good food, laughter, and so much love.

Byron was predeceased by his parents, Herb and Deanie Yeo; his brothers, Delbert and Herbert; his parents-in-law, Harold and Kay Manson; his brother-in-law Neil MacDonald; and his sister-in-law, Lana Manson.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Carol and their four children, Kara (Ryan) Waddell, Brett (Kari), Dylan (Jessica), and Theran (Lisa); grandchildren, Jorja, Holly, Isla, Quinn, Quade, Henry, Brooks, Everly, Kacey, Sawyer, and Austin; brothers, Terry and Denton (Erin); sisters, Karen (Michael) Ruszkowski, and Colleen MacDonald; siblings-in-law, Lena Yeo, Doreen McLeod, Bob (Cheryl) Manson, Calvin (Shirley) Manson, and David Manson.  As well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

A private family gathering was held to celebrate Byron’s life.
