Karen Arcand

Obituary of Karen Arcand

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Karen Arcand (nee Nelson), of Christopher Lake, SK. She passed away peacefully on August 10, 2024, at the age of 69, surrounded by her loved ones in the Rose Garden Hospice, after a lengthy battle with Cancer.

Karen was born on February 17, 1955, in Shellbrook to Beryl and Gunnar Nelson. Karen was a loving wife, marrying Fred Arcand in 1976 and spent the majority of their years in the Christopher Lake area. Mom and Dad were inseparable, a couple who truly embodied what it means to be soulmates. Their love story began May 18, 1969, at the age of 14 in Debden Saskatchewan. From that moment on, they knew they were destined to be partners for life. It was more than love, it was life itself. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter and adventure, creating a strong and loving home for their children.

Karen's love extended to her four children, Christina (Curtis Wailing), their children Grayson & Paityn; Brian and his son Brayden Arcand, James (Angelina) Arcand, their children Amy, James, & Mateo; Liz (Daryl Gareau), their children Laykin & Jive. Her relationship with her children was marked by unwavering love. With her support and guidance, she walked alongside them every step of their journey. This connection will be greatly missed. Karen was not only a beloved wife and mother, but also a wonderful friend to many, including her closest confidante, her sister Charlotte Nelson. They were fortunate to have a steadfast friend in each other, offering support through life's adventures and challenges while sharing countless laughs along the way. Their bond was truly special. She dedicated her life to her family providing unconditional love and support. Her warmth, kindness, and generosity were felt by all who knew her.

Karen was the first female, auto paint technician in the province this made her a pioneer. She was a creator, crafter and she was artistic. Quilting became her favourite hobby making many quilts and afghans for children, grandchildren, and fundraisers.

She was a warrior - fierce and powerful, that stood by her loved ones. Her home was always open, and her heart was even bigger. She had the ability to make every child feel special, loved and safe. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her own family, as she cared deeply for the well-being of everyone she met.

She was predeceased by her parents, Beryl and Gunnar Nelson, and an infant sibling. Karen's memory will be cherished and kept alive by her husband Fred, her children, their spouses, grandchildren, her sister, Charlotte Nelson, her brothers, Roger and Clayton Nelson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, kindness and strength will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Rose Garden Hospice in Prince Albert for the exceptional care and kindness shown to Karen in her final days. In lieu of other tributes, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Rose Garden Hospice, 500 38th St W, Prince Albert, SK S6W 0A3, in Karen Arcand's memory, so they may continue providing comfort and support to other families in need.
