Obituary of David Melvin Maunu
It is with heavy hearts that the family of David Melvin Maunu wish to announce his passing on September 12, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Dave is survived by his wife Genevieve “Jenny” of 47 years, his daughter Lisa (Neil) Nichols, granddaughters Kate and Anna Nichols, sister Lynnell Sarkilahti, brother Kevin (Cindy) Maunu, mother-in-law Mary Erdman, brothers-in law Greg (Donna) Erdman, Rob (Lori) Erdman, Mark (Kelley) Erdman, sister-in-law Laurie Erdman as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents Shirley and Melvin Maunu, grandson Noah Nichols, father-in-law Ken Erdman and brother-in-law Raymond Erdman.
Dave was born February 28, 1957, in Sault Ste. Marie, ON to Shirley and Melvin Maunu. The family then moved to Clinton and Merrit, BC before settling on the farm in Dinsmore, SK where he grew up and graduated from Dinsmore Composite High School. David worked in Nanaimo, BC as a Timber Cruiser before moving to Saskatoon to attend Kelsey Institute. He worked, completing his apprenticeship and received his Red Seal Ticket as a Motor Vehicle Mechanic in 1982.
It was during this time that he met Jenny, and they were married June 18, 1977.
They welcomed daughter Lisa in 1978 and resided in Saskatoon until moving to Prince Albert in the late 1980s where he lived until his passing. He worked as a mechanic until his health no longer allowed. Dave enjoyed working on cars, stock car racing, playing the guitar, camping, playing cards, fishing, reading westerns and most of all, spending time with his family.
In lieu of tributes donations may made to Rose Garden Hospice, 500-38th Street West, Prince Albert, SK, S6W 0A3 or a charity of your choice. A special thank-you to the caring staff on the 4th floor at Victoria Hospital. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00pm, Friday, September 20, 2024, at St. Mark Parish, 581 9th Street East, Prince Albert, SK.
