Obituary of Therese Otterson
Therese “Terry” Marie Palmyre (Bourgeois) Otterson
September 11, 1951 - October 9, 2024
Terry was born in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan where she attended grade school. She moved to Regina where she earned a teaching certificate and taught elementary school for one year in Frobisher and one year in Regina, SK.
Terry married Amund Edward Otterson on July 7, 1972 in Palmer, Saskatchewan.
Terry and Amund moved to Shellbrook for the start of the school year in 1973 where Amund began to work at the high school. Together in Shellbrook, Saskatchewan, Terry and Amund raised Greg (Chandra Busby) and Barry (April Anderson) and were blessed with Grandchildren Kayleigh and Jaelyn, Cole and Seth.
While caring for her family, Terry worked for Terry Jones at Terry’s Diamond House, and then Terry and Amund operated a local sporting goods business until the mid 1990s. Terry continued to work in the community at the local hardware store and later at the Shellbrook Golf Course.
Terry had an absolute love of golf. She spent countless hours on the golf course both golfing and caring for the many flower beds around the course. Terry enjoyed gardening both having flowers around the yard as well as tending to the shared garden she and Amund had in Sylvia Jones’ yard. As Terry neared retirement, she learned to paint and spent hours during the winter months working on her craft. She became part of a community of painting friends in Shellbrook. Terry loved watching curling on tv and during curling championships she would often plan her day around the curling schedule on tv in order to ensure that she got to see as much of the curling as possible.
Terry loved her grandchildren and was so proud of all of their accomplishments. She loved watching her grandchildren’s extracurricular activities such as hockey, football, ringette, softball and theatre productions. If Terry was unable to be at these events in person, she would often watch the livestreams from home. Terry was always excited to cheer for both of her son’s favorite hockey teams. Terry enjoyed keeping up with her favorite daytime soaps and evening tv shows.
Terry fostered many amazing friendships throughout the community and did her best to give more than she received by volunteering with the Kinette Club and at the Golf Course and by being a wonderful neighbour.
Terry is survived by her husband Amund Otterson, her sons Greg (Chandra) Otterson and their daughters Kayleigh and Jaelyn, Barry (April) Otterson and their sons Cole and Seth; her siblings Jeanne (Bob) Stone, Claire (John) Smith, and Richard (Mary) Bourgeois; Amund’s siblings Shirley (George) Snead, Hugh (Wendy) Otterson, Jean Weild, Rita (Dale) Suderman, Earl (Roxanne) Otterson, and sister-in- law Sandra Otterson, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Terry was predeceased by her mother and father Cecile and Bernard Bourgeois, her mother and father-in-law Margaret and Elmer Otterson, brothers-in-law Murray Otterson and Greg Weild, and her niece Myranda Weild.
