Calvin Harris

Obituary of Calvin Roy Harris

With heavy hearts, the family of Calvin Roy Harris, sadly announce his passing on November 6th, 2024 with family by his side.

Calvin (“Bill”) was born in Prince Albert to Clarence and Opal Harris on August 25th, 1960. The second of 6 children, he grew up in the Briarlea District attending Wildrose School and later PACI in Prince Albert.

Dad met the love of his life, Janet Barkway, in 1977 and the two were married in March of 1978 at just 18 years old. In September of 1978, they welcomed their first born, Wade, who unfortunately passed away shortly after birth. Following Wade, “the girls” Janelle and Camille came into their lives. In 1998, Dad was promoted to “Pappy”, when his little sidekick Arland was born.

Dad enjoyed being outside and working more than attending school. At a young age he started working for his uncle’s operating heavy equipment. The skills he obtained led him to work for numerous companies all across the province. Dad would often reminisce about working on the road and always had a story to share. He met many great people through those years that became close friends.

Growing up, Calvin and his brother Ralph (“Skippy”) would spend countless hours in the pines hunting, trapping and fishing the Saskatchewan River. During these outings, many life lessons were learnt the hard way. Their first taste of entrepreneurship came from when they received their first .22 rifles and put a dent in the squirrel population. This started their lifelong passion for hunting and trapping, which Dad enjoyed right until his final days.

In his later years, Dad took up guiding in one of his favorite areas of the province which he referred to as “the bush”. This is the same area that Dad and many family members spent at moose camp, including his closest friend, Rick Galloway. Moose camp and the Morning Lake fishing trip were Dad’s “holidays” he looked forward to every year. Dad cherished these experiences, which to him, were more about the people and the friendships than anything else.

Thank you Dad, for instilling in us the passion for the outdoors, a strong work ethic and appreciating a good story.

Calvin is lovingly remembered by his daughters Janelle Harris, Camille (Kevin) Harrison, grandson Arland Clements and Hoss Dog. Mother Opal Harris, brothers Carmen (Rosalyn); Ralph (Brenda); Boyd (Carla).
