Obituary of Edward Boutin
Edward Boutin, late of Debden, SK, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024, at Rose Garden Hospice in Prince Albert, SK
Ed was born on November 15, 1939, in a home across from Devil’s Lake, now known as Morin Lake. Interestingly, this home would later serve as the home base for the Debden Sno Travellers Snowmobile Club, of which Ed was a member. His childhood was spent on a mixed farm in Victoire.
After his schooling, Ed joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, training as an Aviation Instrument Technician and serving for three years. Following his time in the military, he returned to Victoire, where he met Helene Grimard. They were married on April 23, 1962. Together, they settled in Debden, where they raised four children, Céline , Joanne, Dianne and Raymond.
Throughout his career, Ed worked in a variety of roles. He worked as a motor grader operator, an assistant manager at the Debden Credit Union and a real estate agent. He even became an auctioneer for a short time where he ran his own business, Boots Auctioneering. He then became self-employed as a motor license issuer, an insurance salesman and a liquor vendor.
Ed took pride in his organizational skills and his attention to detail. His files and papers include notes and documentation for all the “important” things in life such as investments, oil changes, purchases and even razor blade changes. He was known for his well-maintained yard, which featured straight caragana and cotoneaster hedges, a productive cucumber crop, license plate lawn edging, and a spotless driveway. Entering his garage, there was a collection of peanut butter containers that neatly organized his large selection of nails and screws. His iconic trademark was his peanut butter container of white peppermints that he placed in convenient places like his garage and vehicles.
Ed had a variety of hobbies and interests. He enjoyed quadding, snowmobiling, picnics, family hikes, and hunting partridge. Ed could identify many plants, trees and birds, and eagerly shared this knowledge with his family and friends.
Ed took pride in many things. He was an active participant in the Debden Heritage Manor project and was proud to contribute to the construction of a facility that would provide care for the aging residents of Debden and the surrounding area. It gave him great joy when his mother, Eva, made the manor her new home.
Ed will always be remembered for his witty, dry and colorful sense of humor, his big bear hugs, his funny stories and the nicknames he gave people. He was someone who found joy in the simple things: a well-kept yard and home, outdoor family outings, and connecting with people. He leaves behind an example of hard work, dedication, and pride in his community.
We will miss you.
Ed will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Helene; children, Céline (Carl) Schlosser, Joanne (Roger) Lajeunesse, Dianne Boutin, and Raymond (Brigitte) Boutin; grandchildren, Bradly (Courtney), Luanne (Michael) Brandi (Kobi), Mica, Chloé, and Callianne; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Lauren.
Ed was predeceased by his parents, Gerard and Eva; siblings, Louis, Clement, Emilie, Julie, and Albert; son-in-law, Carl Schlosser; grandchildren, Sterling, and Tanner Lajeunesse.
We would like to thank the staff of Shellbrook Hospital, RUH, and the Rose Garden Hospice for the wonderful care of our father in his final days.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at St Jean Baptiste Roman Catholic Church, Debden, SK. In lieu of other tributes donations in memory of Ed may be made to, Debden Heritage Manor Box 608 Debden, SK S0J 0S0.
