CREARY: It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Hazel Creary on Friday March 4, 2011 in Evergreen Health Centre, Leoville at the age of 91 years. The Late Mrs. Hazel Creary is survived by her daughter; Eunice (Marcel) Proulx of Shell Lake; 3 Granddaughters; Tracy (Donald) Beaulieu and their children: Desiree, Morgan, Aiden, Alexis, Olivia of Shell Lake; Louise Proulx and her children Ryley and Mikayla of Saskatoon; Terri Lynn (Gary) Kulak and their daughters Addison and Sophia of Lloydminster; Sister-in-Laws Verna Creary of Shell Lake, and Olive Potts of Canwood and a Brother-in-Law Walter Potts of Hafford. As well of numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Oscar & Olga (Lobben) Johnson. Her husband Garnet Creary, a son Howard, a twin sister Helen Simonar, a half brother Victor Johnson, and a grandson Bryan Proulx. Hazel was born July 22, 1919 in Poplar, Montana. Hazel took her schooling in Benqough, Horizon, Hodgeville, Ratner, Canwood, Dry Creek and ending in Edge Water. She came to Shell Lake around 1935-1936 and lived with her mother and worked out. In this time she met Garnet Creary and they were married in his parents' home on December 10, 1941. In 1942 she travelled with Garnet to Three Rivers, Quebec till he was posted overseas in February 1942. She then travelled to Moose Jaw and took employment with Saint Anthony's Home where her mother resided. Garnet was discharged in 1945, so they decided to try their hand at farming. They rented and finally bought SE34-50-8-3rd (Mr. Merenburg's land) and later bought Asbjorn Wergeland's farm. In 1946 their son Howard was born and in 1953 a daughter Eunice. Hazel enjoyed building the family farm, from raising turkeys, chickens, pigs, selling eggs and cream, sitting for hours on the binder, picking roots and rocks. Hazel spent many hours canning vegetables, fruits and meats and could make a meal in the flash for any company that would stop by. Garnet and Hazel farmed together for 52 years. Hazel was actively involved in the UCW, Partners in Worship, and Senior Citizen's Club. She enjoyed taking part in Hey Days activities. Hazel lived on the family farm after losing Garnet in 1998 and enjoyed helping her daughter and son in law around on the farm. In the winter of 2002 Hazel unfortunately had a stroke which left her needing more care and in April moved into Evergreen Health Centre in Leoville. Although this was going to be her new home it was never "Home". The first few years in Leoville Hazel was able to attend many activities and enjoyed many outings with family. Hazel enjoyed the Mineral springs in Watrous with Eunice and some of the seniors from Shell Lake while attending Physio at the City Hospital. She able to be present at Louise and Terri Lynn's weddings and was able to travel with Eunice to see family in Benson. As the years passed her mobility decreased and her outings became harder and fewer in between, she enjoyed her friends at the health centre. She was a wife, mother, Nana and Great-Grandmother and will be sadly missed by all. The funeral service was held Wednesday March 9, 2011 from the Sherll Lake Lion's Hall with Rev. David Jensen officiating. The soloist was Bill Martodam. Her pallbearers were: Donald Beaulieu, Gary Kulak, Donald Potts, Delray Creary, Dennis Simmonar and Bill McNeilly. Donations in memory of Hazel may be made to the Partners and Worship Church in Shell Lake. Email Condolences will be forwarded to the family. Beau"Lac" Funeral Home of Spiritwood were entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
