Obituary of Peter Hrynewich

Hrynewich, Peter - It is with deep regret that the family of Peter Hrynewich announces his passing on April 26, 2006 at the age of 82. He was born on July 8th, 1923 on the family farm near Whitkow, SK to Dmytro and Mary Hrynewich. He had a brother William and a sister Stella who passed away in infancy; however, he did grow up with sisters Anne and Olga. Peter attended Co-operation School up to Grade 6, after which he went farming. Peter farmed, did blacksmithing in Whitkow for Dick Harbus and worked in garage in Mayfair for Vern Murry. He worked with Oscar Fenner in Rabbit Lake doing plumbing and heating. After Howard School closed, Peter drove the school bus to Rabbit Lake for three years. In 1951 he married his wife, Ruth Billard. They had four children: Stanley, Diane, Linda and Catherine; thirteen grandchildren, and so far twenty five great grandchildren. He farmed using horses and then tractors. He believed that there was only one colour a tractor should be and that was red; and it had better be a Massey, staying with them to the end of his farming. He was a jack of all trades: carpentry, electrical, welding, mechanics, plumbing and heating were some of the things he did for himself and others. He loved to pick berries and mushrooms, and hunting, fishing and trapping were very important to him. Peter collected, repaired and rebuilt guns as well as reloading shells. His gun collection grew to 115 guns. He also enjoyed collecting antiques, filling the house and any other building with his treasures. Peter was one of the founding members of the Howard School Snow Plow Club, even building his won plow. He taught 4-H welding for 6 years, served on the R.M. of Round Hill council for 19 years, served on the Meeting Lake Board, Rabbit Lake Hospital Board and was an active member of the Rabbit Lake Seniors. Playing cards, especially Kaiser and then later a marble game were greatly enjoyed. Peter loved to talk to people and was always willing to help others and always had time for coffee. He took great pride in his family, even getting to know his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; attending their hockey games, figure skating carnivals, ball games, graduations and whatever else came along. Peter's health started failing him approximately thirteen years ago. When his condition progressed, he required constant care and spent the last six years in the Spiritwood Nursing Home. His illness robbed him and his family of the person that he was, but there will be many memories to carry us along; his joy of simple things, his hobbies and the twinkle in his eye. Peter leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Ruth, of Rabbit Lake, SK; his children Stanley (Marjorie) of North Battleford, SK, Diane Tribble of North Battleford, SK, Linda (Wayne) Pauls of Spiritwood, SK and Cathy (Ian) Klics of Meadow Lake, SK; his grandchildren and great grandchildren Jennifer (Marcel) Hrynewich & their children Halie, Ethan, Patrick & Drayton, Jeffrey Hrynewich, Grant (Brenda) Cookman & their children Taylin & Cassidy, Darcy Lange (Roger) & their children Heidi, Markel & Brandon, Darek (Tracy) Cookman & their children Jasmine & Jayden, Janice (Mitch) Mazurek & their children Jessica, Kirkland & Lyndyn, Ricky Cookman & his children Shaylene, Dustin, Tiara & Mathew, Denise (Bruce) Franson & their children Kody, Zachary, Deziree & Brooklyn, Arren Tribble (Amber), Kim Pauls (Josee), Kelly ( Tammy) Pauls & their children Zachary, Paige & Megan, Kerstin (Dave) Bzdel and Zane Klics; a sister Olga Woloshyn of North Battleford, SK, numerous nephews, a niece, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Dmytro & Mary Hrynewich, a brother Bill in infancy, and his sisters Stella in infancy and Ann Tomanek and by his brothers in law Peter Tomonek & Harry Woloshyn. The funeral service was held on Saturday, April 29th, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. from the Rabbit Lake Community Hall with Rev. Don Unger as the officiant. The soloist was Jan Cherwinski and the organist was Marlene Martens. Congregational hymns were Just A Closer Walk With Thee and Peace Is Flowing Like A River. The eulogy was read by Wayne Pauls. Honorary pallbearers were all relatives & friends who shared in Peter's life and the active pallbearers were his grandsons Grant Cookman, Darek Cookman, Ricky Cookman, Zane Klics, Kim Pauls, Kelly Pauls, Jeffrey Hrynewich and Arren Tribble. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Idylwild Lodge Auxiliary. Peter was laid to rest in the Glass Lake Cemetery. Beau "Lac" Funeral Home was entrusted with funeral arrangements.
