Obituary of Colin Howard Lewis Swan Smith

Grateful for the memories, saddened by his loss; the family of Colin Smith announce his sudden passing on February 1, 2013. Funeral Service was held Friday, February 8th, 2013 ~ 2:00 pm from the Big River Community Hall, Big River, Saskatchewan. Immediately following the service, the family wish to invite you for a time of lunch and fellowship in the Community Hall. Memorial Donations in Colin's memory may be made to the Diabetes Association. Colin Howard Lewis Swan Smith was born August 17, 1979 to Howard and Brenda Smith. He was the baby and only boy in a family with five older sisters; Charlene, Colleen, Pauline, Arlene, and Jolene. He attended school in Debden, SK from 1984 to 1997. After graduating from grade 12 he worked at various jobs which included: custom combining, farm work at Richard Anderson, carpentry with C.C. Cabinet, Bischler’s Produce, various jobs in the oil field, and eventually plumbing at Meg Energy. Colin was waiting to go to school for his third year apprentice for plumbing and gas fitting. He grew up and continued to live on the family farm in the Park Valley in the Canwood RM. When Colin was young he was a member of a dance group called The Deep Lake Stompers. As he got older he had several interests but he especially enjoyed hunting, quading and camping. When Colin was in his mid-twenties he was diagnosed with diabetes. Colin adapted to this quit well. He went to the nutritionist, managed his sugars and even took an interest in recipes that were diabetic friendly. Colin was a very tough man, he had to be living with five sisters. He wasn’t only tough but he was also a very loving family man. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for his parents or sisters. As an uncle he loved his nieces and nephews as if they were his own. He would take the time to play with them every chance he got. Some of the kid’s favorite memories where the quad rides he would give them. Colin liked to tease and give his mom a bit of a hard time. When she would say something that didn’t come out quite right, he would always twist her words around to confuse her. He then would laugh when she’d tell him “I’ll remember that”. He had a keen sense of humor and when he figured he had gotten something over on you he would give a sheepish little grin. Colin was an upstanding man. He was hard working. It didn’t matter if it was at the worksite or the farm; he always gave all he could and tried his best. He was also very organized and tidy. When it came to friends and family he was always there when they needed a hand. He would always take the time to help someone in need. It was these qualities that made Colin the loved and respected man that he was. Colin will be dearly missed. He was an amazing son, brother, Uncle and Friend. Although he was only in our lives for only a short time, it was a blessing. This loss leaves a void in our lives but our love and memories of this amazing man will live in our hearts forever.
