Obituary of Olga Peters

It is with deep sorrow that the family of Olga Peters wish to announce her passing on the 30th day of March 2013 at the age of 81 years. Olga was born on February 18, 1932 in Saskatoon, SK. to Nick and Mary Gyarmati and was the little sister for Hermine. They left Saskatoon and moved south of Rabbit Lake to the Reserve Lake School District where she attended school. During this time Nick. Jr. joined the family. After a few years they moved to their farm North of Bapaume where Olga attended and finished her schooling. She moved to Rabbit Lake and worked at the Rabbit Lake Rose Gill Hospital where she met her husband to be; John Peters. They were married on June 17, 1959 and farmed just south of Rabbit Lake. She worked with John helping with the livestock, raising chickens and of course growing a huge garden. After selling their farm and moving into Rabbit Lake she became involved with community activities, serving on the hall board, the library board, the church council and was the president of the Church ladies group for a number of years. Olga loved the spring and summer, growing large gardens and beautiful flowers. Olga was always ready to lend a helping hand and put others needs before her own. She baby sat for many, and spent a great deal of time with her family, nieces and nephews, these special times brought Olga absolute joy. Olga loved to cook and have family and friends over for meals. The tea kettle was always on for afternoon tea and cake if you happened to pop in. She enjoyed playing cards, going to potluck suppers, attending summer picnics, playing bingo and visiting. After living in Rabbit Lake for over 37 years she moved to Spiritwood in 1999. She became a member of the senior’s association and enjoyed going to the Pioneer Centre to participate in the many activities. She would be delighted when friends from Rabbit Lake would drop in to visit and play cards. Her independence was very important to her. She never wanted to bother or cause an inconvenience to anyone. The last year and a half it became more difficult for her to go out and socialize, so she kept in touch with her family and friends through phone calls, and writing letters. She greatly appreciated when people stopped in to visit. Even with her declining health she insisted on living in her own home until the very end. The Church was an important part of her life and Her faith in God gave her the strength to overcome the challenges that were placed before her. She faced her fears and pain with dignity and grace and left us quietly so not to bother anyone. Olga leaves to cherish her memories: her sister, Hermine Balazsi, her brother, Nick Gyarmati and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Olga is predeceased by: her husband, John Peters, her parents, Nick and Mary Gyarmati and her sister, Annie Eros. A Funeral Service was held for Olga on Friday, April 5th, 2013 from the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Spiritwood, Saskatchewan. Memorial Donations in Olga’s memory may be made to the Hoffnungsfelder Cemetery or the Canadian Cancer Society. Her Final Resting Place is in the Hoffnungsfelder Cemetery beside her husband, John.
