Obituary of Ernest Joseph Jean Baptiste Montgrand

Montgrand – Mr. Ernest 1931-2013 With heavy hearts the family of Joseph Ernest Jean Baptiste Montgrand announce his passing on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at the age of 81 years. Ernest was born on July 8, 1931 in LaLoche, Saskatchewan to Jonas and Margaret Montgrand. His mother passed away when he was very young, and so Ernest and his sister Marceline, were sent to live with his aunt and uncle. At the age of 19 Ernest heard there was work available in a small logging town called Big River, SK, and so he decided to leave home to start a new life. On his way to Big River, SK, Ernest saw something very memorable, his first motor vehicle! He was fortunate to make friends with some very good people, and was able to find a place to live with Iver and Mary Fonus and their family, while he took on his first job at Waite Fisheries. In the coming years Ernest would also find work logging, landscaping, cooking, and doing some carpentry. While searching for work, Ernest met Angeline Villeneuve, and they were together for 51 years. In the coming years they had 5 children, Arsen, Lynda, Marlene, Ernest Jr. and Roger. Angeline and Ernest were married on Oct. 1, 1994. Ernest had many hobbies he enjoyed, such as yard work, walking, hunting, fishing and playing pool. In between these activities, Ernest never missed going for coffee which took place 3-4 times a day. Ernest loved spending time with his 7 grandchildren, the memories they shared will stay with them forever. Through the many years Ernest has lived in Big River, he has entered into the hearts of many people and was greatly loved by all who knew him, and will be greatly missed by all. Ernest is lovingly survived by his wife, Angeline Montgrand; his children Lynda (Michael) Beebe and their children, Crystal (Daniel), Joshua, Jonas and David; Marlene (Dave) Krawetz and their children, Malinda (Sean), Brandon, and Timothy (Shantel); Ernest Montgrand Jr.; Roger Montgrand; as well as numerous other relatives and countless friends. Ernest was predeceased by his parents, Jonas and Marguriette Montgrand; his sister, Marceline Montgrand; and his son, Arsen Villeneuve. The Memorial Service for Ernest took place on Monday, May 13, 2013 from the Big River Community Hall with Pastor Jake McCrea as Officiant. Laura Wilson and the Big River Community Choir helped with the music, Crystal Beebe and Malinda Krawetz read the eulogy, and Ernest Montgrand Jr. was the urn bearer. Interment will be at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Ernest to either the Canadian Diabetes Association or to the choice of the donor.
