Obituary of Evelyn "Joyce" Ann Beebe
Joyce Beebe passed away peacefully at the Evergreen Health Centre on September 18, 2013 at the age of 71.
Evelyn Joyce Ann Beebe was born November 13 1941 to Frank and Elizabeth Beebe in North Battleford Sk. She was the second child in their large family of twelve children
Elizabeth and kids stayed with Frank in bush camp in Big River then moved to Timberlost area, and the kids went to school. They moved to Capsin in 1953 to the farm.
Joyce stayed at home helping with chores and taking care of her younger siblings for many years.
Joyce left the farm in 1962 and went into her first group home in Moose Jaw Sk. She moved around quite a bit but made her way back home to Leoville in December 1999, to the Evergreen Health Center.
The nurses at Sherbrooke Nursing Home in Saskatoon would say that Joyce could never get into the 4x4 truck that her sister came to pick her up with, but Joyce had no problem getting into that truck once she knew she was going back to Leoville.
The staff at the Evergreen welcomed Joyce with open arms and she even started walking again with help from them. When she first got there she was able to attend many family functions and go out on many outings until her condition would not allow it.
Joyce’s illness made it vary hard for her to communicate clearly with those around her, but she still found ways to make herself understood. Even toward the end, she still yelled when someone was in front of her TV.
Joyce loved her movies, Winnie the Pooh being her favorite. She wore out a few VCRs and even a DVD player or two.
She also loved her visit time with family and anyone else who dropped by. She loved babies and was always eager to hold them. She was happy when Grandpa Frank went to live at the Evergreen. She was able to spend many afternoons with her dad at coffee time.
“Aunty” Joyce taught her nieces and nephews a few things:
1. That you can do things even if others think you can’t – like playing with magnets this summer
2. Christmas really is the best holiday
3. That you are never too old to be a princess
4. To be patient because sometimes you need to wait for good things to happen, like ice cream after a meal
5. To be tolerant for those who are different than we are and being able to accept them for their disabilities.
Joyce will always hold a special place in many hearts of the Evergreen Staff and Family will find it strange going to the Evergreen without Joyce being there.
We will all miss her.
“If there ever comes a day when we cant be together keep me in your heart I’ll stay there forever.”
Joyce leaves to cherish her memories: her father, Frank Beebe, her siblings: Marion Grassick, Shirley Hodgson, Darlene (Roger) Bruneau, Alex (Bev) Beebe, Tom (Barb) Beebe, Phyllis (Lloyd) Gwilliam, Richard (Sheila) Beebe, Harry (Shirley) Beebe, her brother-in-law, Melvin Doetzel, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She is predeceased by: her mother, Elizabeth Beebe, 1971, her sisters, Ellen Doetzel and Joan Heppner, an infant brother, Russell Sidney Beebe, her brothers-in-law:
Albert Hodgson, Charlie Grassick and George Heppner.
