Obituary of Robert Wayne Bonsan

Robert Wayne, born July 27, 1938 in Edam, SK to Fred and Linda Bonsan, the oldest of 9 children. At 18, Bob enlisted in the army, stationed in New Brunswick as a member of the Royal Canadian Dragoons. The Dragoons were a member of the United Nations Emergency Force, Bob toured in Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Turkey, Lebanon, Cyprus, and Israel. Bob came home and visited in North Battleford and met Elizabeth. They were married in 1962 in New Brunswick. Shortly after, Bob was discharged, returning to North Battleford, working at the Saskatchewan Hospital, Capital Cleaners, drove a Mail Truck and for Old Dutch. Their daughter Cheryl was born in 1962, and their son Kevin was born in 1965. In 1969, Bob went to work at Fort McMurray, his family joined him in 1970. There he received his Millwright certificate, by challenging the Millwright exam, passing without any formal training or schooling. After 15 years in Fort McMurray, Bob and Elizabeth moved to Wainwright where he worked at Energy Industries. It was here that Bob started up his own company, GasCom. After Wainwright, they moved to Edmonton, Toefield, Millet and Gull Lake before settling in Medstead. Bob served as mayor of Medstead for a few years and always loved to be involved in the community, he made friends everywhere he went. Bob was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He has been a Member, an Officer, President, an Honorary Secretary and a Sergeant at Arms. He never missed a Remembrance Day ceremony, and was always talking in the schools about his service, and the importance of Remembrance Day. Bob was honoured with a Queen Elizabeth the Second Diamond Jubilee Medal this past January. Bob loved card games, knew every card game and would play with anyone who wanted too. You could never stump Bob with a ‘new’ game. Crib was a favourite game of his, and he also got a “Perfect 29” a couple of times. Bob also loved fishing, gardening, animals big and small, the roughriders, just being outside, driving and going places. Bob was always smiling, and loved to joke. Family was very important to Bob, never missing a Reunion and was always involved in the planning. Church was also very important, never wanting to miss Church, and was always willing to talk about his faith with anyone. Bob leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of 52 years, Betty, his children:~ Cheryl (Norman) Neale and children: Courtney & Adam (Melanie)~ Kevin (Cheryl) Bonsan and their son, Devon, Bob’s siblings: Bill (Caroline) Bonsan, Mary (Les) Kish, Ruth (Roger) Bec, Danny (Ellen) Regnier, George (Suzanne) Regnier His sister-in-law, Mary Lou Bonsan, His in-laws: Erma Kuchler, Holly (Fred) Grant, Emil (Kay) Drieschner, Wanda (Frank) Snorro and numerous other relatives and countless friends. Bob is predeceased by: his parents, Fred Bonsan and Linda Regnier, his step-father, Paul Regnier, his brothers; John Bonsan, Gordon Bonsan and Alex Regnier, his parents-in-law, Max & Clara Drieschner, his brother-in-law, Karl Kuchler. A Funeral Service was held on September 30th, 2013 from the Medstead Community Hall.
