Obituary of Maurice Philippe Louis Hallé

Maurice Philippe Louis Hallé 11 April 1933 - 25 February 2024, Maurice was born in Hearst, Ontario and died in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan at the age of 90. He was a loving husband to Jeannine (Groulx) Hallé for 64 years, a wonderful dad, pépère, grand-pépère, uncle, great uncle, and friend to many.

 Maurice is remembered for his kind heart, courage, and wisdom, grateful for his many blessings as well as a full and rich life. The sixth of seven adult children, Maurice came of age through hard work in the forests of Northern Ontario, bringing him from Hearst to Longlac. There he met the love of his life, Jeannine, whom he married in 1959.

 A proud and skilled crane operator, Maurice spoke fondly of his early adventures with his older brother Joe, working from a tent over the winter months deep in the bush to clear swampy forest land for the construction of pulp haul roads. He went on to become a heavy equipment mechanic for Kimberly Clark, before moving his young family to Prince Albert in 1967, where he worked as the Mechanical Superintendent for Saskatchewan Pulpwood Ltd.  After several years as manager of Woodlands Enterprise Ltd., Maurice traveled cross-country as an agent of “flex air” fans, an innovation used in the retrofit of heavy equipment. Early retirement in 1993 didn’t slow Maurice down. Always the life of the party, Maurice loved to sing and to dance, and had always stayed busy as a skier, golfer, curler, Knights of Columbus, Toastmasters, prolific volunteer, hockey and baseball coach, mentor, family man, dancer, and a great storyteller.  The extra time that came with retirement allowed Maurice to spend more quality time with his children and grandkids. He had a big heart, which he shared as the cook of the house, constantly showing his love and pride for the family he raised with Jeannine. Maurice was generous in his service to others, stepping up through his volunteer efforts at St Joseph Parish where he was a long-term member of the Parish council, and acting as lay leader in serving mass at Herb Basset Home and Mont St Joseph.  He also took pleasure in staying active, golfing, and curling extensively right up to his 90th birthday, meticulously tending his flawless yard, removing snow from both his own and his neighbors’ driveways, and travelling with Jeannine each year to visit their children from coast to coast, and even from Europe to Australia.

 A wonderful life well lived, family and friends can remember and show their appreciation for Maurice at his Funeral Mass, which will be celebrated at 1:30 pm Friday, 8 March at St Joseph Parish, 260 25th St E, Prince Albert, SK. Survived by his wife, Jeannine; his 4 children, Diane (Mike) Kopchynski, Marcel (Elaine) Hallé, Suzie (Allen) Stubbs and Marc (Reinaldo) Hallé of Montréal; his 9 grandchildren, Stephan (Tasha), Jason (Mandi), Kristin (Tyler) of Saskatoon, Evan (Amber), Matthieu (Rachel) of Ottawa, Danielle (Lucas) of Waterloo, Renée (Andrew) of Vancouver, Michelle (Torrie) of Saskatoon, and Christopher; 4 great-grandchildren, Beau, Maeve, Rowen and Geneviève; sisters-in-law, Muriel (Alfred) Hallé of Manitoulin Island, Lucy (Ernie) Poitras (Kodila) of Kelowna, brothers-in-law, Ronald (Jacqueline) Groulx of Cold Lake, Georges (Annette) Groulx of Ottawa and many cousins, nieces, nephews and good friends.

11 avril 1933 - 25 février 2024, Maurice est né à Hearst, en Ontario et est décédé à Prince Albert, en Saskatchewan, à l'âge de 90 ans. Il était l'époux bien-aimé de Jeannine (Groulx) Hallé pendant 64 ans, un merveilleux père, pépère, grand-pépère, oncle, grand-oncle et ami de beaucoup.

 On se souvient de Maurice pour son bon cœur, son courage et sa sagesse, reconnaissant pour ses nombreuses bénédictions ainsi que pour une vie bien remplie et riche. Sixième d'une famille de sept enfants adultes, Maurice a atteint sa majorité grâce à un travail acharné dans les forêts du nord de l'Ontario, l'amenant de Hearst à Longlac. Il y rencontre l'amour de sa vie, Jeannine, qu'il épouse en 1959.

 Grutier fier et compétent, Maurice a parlé avec tendresse de ses premières aventures avec son frère aîné Joe, alors qu'ils vivaient dans une tente pendant les mois d'hiver et travaillaient au cœur de la brousse pour défricher des terres forestières marécageuses pour la construction de routes pour le transport du bois. Il est ensuite devenu mécanicien d'équipement lourd pour Kimberly Clark, avant de déménager sa jeune famille à Prince Albert en 1967, où il a travaillé comme surintendant mécanique pour Saskatchewan Pulpwood Ltd.  Après plusieurs années en tant que directeur de Woodlands Enterprise Ltd., Maurice a voyagé à travers-pays en tant qu'agent de ventilateurs « flex-air », une innovation utilisée dans la modernisation d'équipements lourds. La retraite anticipée en 1993 n’a pas ralenti Maurice. Toujours passionné par la fête, Maurice aimait chanter et danser et était toujours resté occupé en tant que skieur, golfeur, curleur, Chevalier de Colomb, Toastmasters, bénévole prolifique, entraîneur de hockey et de baseball, mentor, père de famille, danseur et grand conteur. Le temps supplémentaire que lui a permis la retraite a permis à Maurice de passer plus de temps de qualité avec ses enfants et petits-enfants. Il avait un grand cœur, qu'il partageait en tant que cuisinier de la maison, démontrant constamment son amour et sa fierté pour la famille qu'il avait élevée avec Jeannine. Maurice a été généreux dans son service envers les autres, intensifiant ses efforts bénévoles à la paroisse Saint-Joseph où il a été membre de longue date du conseil paroissial et agissant en tant que leader laïc en servant la messe à la Maison Herb Basset et au Mont Saint-Joseph. Il a également pris plaisir à rester actif, à jouer au golf et au curling jusqu'à son 90e anniversaire, à entretenir méticuleusement son jardin impeccable, à déneiger sa propre entrée et celle de ses voisins, et à voyager avec Jeannine chaque année pour rendre visite à leurs enfants d'un océan à l'autre au Canada, et même de l’Europe jusqu’en Australie.

 Une vie merveilleuse et bien vécue, dont la famille et les amis pourront se souvenir et montrer leur appréciation envers Maurice lors de ses funérailles, qui auront lieu à 13:30 heures le vendredi 8 mars à la paroisse St Jospeh, 260 25e rue E, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
